Pt. 4: A Glimpse of Maturity

Lead Pastor, Mark Hardacre, discusses spiritual maturity based on the book of Habakkuk in the conclusion to our series, Habakkuk: When God Seems Unfair.
Duration:29 mins 8 secs

Hab 3:17 (NLT) Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines, even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights.

We Think Maturity Is…

1. Knowing the Word of God.

John 5:39-40 (NLT) (Jesus speaking): "You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life.

2. Modifying our behavior.

Gal 2:21 (NLT) I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.

Hab 3:17-18 (NLT) Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!

A Glimpse of Maturity

1. God is the foundation of our joy

2 Cor 12:8-9 (NLT) Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, "My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness."

Hab 3:19 (NLT) The Sovereign Lord is my strength! He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights.

2. God is the source of our strength

Response:

1. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 high), where would I rank my spiritual maturity?

2. How can I work on being more content?

3. How can I work on being more humble?
