Summer Activities To Do With Your Kids – For Christian Moms in Colorado

Olivia Rebboah   -

As a Christian mom, navigating the ups and downs of parenting can sometimes feel like an overwhelming journey. From balancing your spiritual walk to raising your children with faith-filled values, the weight of it all can be daunting. However, being a part of a supportive community like MomCo can make this journey easier. It provides moms with a space to share experiences, offer encouragement, and find practical ideas to help raise their little ones in a Christ-centered way. We offer this group in the morning and in the evening here at Landing Place Church with both groups meeting twice a month. Registration for our MomCo groups is now open for the fall.

As summer approaches, it is an exciting opportunity to spend quality time with your kids and create memorable moments; it also can bring on stress in trying to plan things to do.  It doesn’t have to be expensive, and it certainly doesn’t have to be complicated. Below you will find some ideas that are fun, free, or low-cost activities to do with your kids this summer in Colorado, all while embracing your faith and encouraging your little ones to grow spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

1.Family Nature Hikes with a Purpose

Colorado is home to some of the most breathtaking nature hikes in the country. Whether you’re trekking through the Rocky Mountains, exploring Garden of the Gods, or walking along the many trails near Denver, you can weave Christian teachings into your outdoor adventures. You can create a scavenger hunt for your little ones where they can search for specific animals or natural wonders, all while talking about how God created the beauty around them. With every step, you can remind them how each tree, bird, and flower reflect God’s glory.

Cost: Free

Location: endless opportunities on where you can go

2. Bible Verse Memory Craft Projects

Crafting is a fun and creative way for children to express their faith. Choose a Bible verse to memorize and then get crafty by turning the verse into a colorful piece of art. Use materials you have at home or find inexpensive supplies like construction paper, markers, and stickers. Let your kids decorate their Bible verse art and hang it in their room. Not only will this reinforce Bible verses, but it will also be a fun, hands-on way to engage their creativity while reinforcing spiritual values.

Cost: Low (Use craft supplies you have at home) | Location: Your home or park (if the weather is nice!)

3. Explore Local Farmers’ Markets

Local farmers’ markets are a fun, low-cost outing where kids can enjoy browsing fresh produce, homemade goods, and local crafts. Many markets also feature live music or activities for children. Jesus encouraged living simply and being mindful of how we use our resources. In Matthew 6:19-21, He teaches about storing up treasures in heaven rather than accumulating material wealth. At the farmers’ market, you can model the idea of simplicity and mindfulness for your children. Instead of buying excess or focusing on materialism, encourage your kids to choose fresh, wholesome food that helps nourish the body and mind.

Location: Some of the best farmers’ markets in Colorado are in Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs.

Cost: Free to browse (Bring cash if you want to purchase items) |

Location: Farmers’ markets throughout Colorado

4. Denver Zoo

The Denver Zoo is a wonderful spot for families with young children. It’s easy to navigate, features animals from all over the world, and includes interactive exhibits that engage kids, like the playground, splash pad areas, and train ride. Jesus often spoke about God’s care for His creation, even the smallest things. For instance, in Matthew 6:26, Jesus says, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” While at the zoo, you can reflect on this verse and think about how God cares for the animals, and how much more He cares for us.

Cost: Children – $12; Adults – $17; Seniors – $14 Children under 2 years of age – FREE. There are also yearly memberships so you could enjoy the zoo all year round.

Parenting is a rewarding yet challenging adventure. This summer, embrace the opportunity to bond with your little ones in meaningful ways that nurture their faith, teach them about God’s love, and create lasting memories. There are countless ways to spend time together as a family in Colorado. Whether it’s through a Bible verse craft or exploring the wonders of God’s creation, make the most of every moment with your kids.

Remember, you’re not alone on this journey. Connect with groups like MomCo to find support, encouragement, and ideas for making this summer one filled with love, faith, and fun.
