Finding Connection Close to Home: Building Community in North Commerce City
Even in quiet, family-friendly suburbs like Reunion, Turnberry and Buffalo Highlands in North Commerce City, many residents are feeling more isolated than ever.
An Epidemic of Loneliness
A 2023 study by the U.S. Surgeon General reported that over 50% of American adults experience measurable levels of loneliness, with suburban communities being particularly vulnerable due to more spread-out neighborhoods and fewer casual, walkable gathering spaces. This means that despite the beautiful parks and growing amenities, it’s still easy to feel disconnected.
What Jesus Says About Connection
The need for meaningful connections did not start with our generation. Humans have been struggling to find meaningful connections for as long as humans have been around. Consider what Jesus said:
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” Matthew 22:37–39 (NLT)
Jesus is saying, just loving God is not enough. We are called to love others also. And we do that through meaningful connections.
Paul, a hater of Jesus and Christians, turned church planter, had this to say:
“So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NLT)
The Heartbeat of Landing Place Church
Meaningful connections are central to what we are about at Landing Place Church (LPC). Our tagline is, “The Connection You Are Looking For.” We want that for our church and our community. Back in 2008 when the economy crashed and builders stopped putting on community events, LPC stepped in to help with movie nights and trunk or treat. And we are still doing community events today because we believe that meaningful connections are vital to a healthy community.
Thankfully, opportunities to build genuine relationships are right around the corner.
