Is Debt Normal? What Does the Bible Say?

  -

We are thrilled to discuss the transformative journey of becoming debt-free through Financial Peace University, coordinated by Landing Place Church. Financial freedom is not just a practical goal but a spiritual one, deeply rooted in biblical principles. Let’s explore how we can break free from the chains of debt and live in the freedom that God intends for us.

Biblical Foundation

The Bible provides clear guidance on the dangers of debt. Proverbs 22:7 states, “The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.” This verse highlights the bondage that debt creates, limiting our freedom and ability to serve God fully. Romans 13:8 advises, “Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another.” This encourages us to be financially debt free so that we can prioritize our relationships with others.

Principles of Financial Peace University

Financial Peace University offers practical steps to eliminate debt and achieve financial stability. One of the key principles is the “Debt Snowball” method, which involves paying off debts from smallest to largest, gaining momentum with each success. We, along with many other members of Landing Place Church, have experienced the joy and relief of becoming debt-free through FPU. Each story is unique, but in the end it all comes down to hard work, sacrifice for a season and the tenacity to see it through! Their stories inspire us to take control of our finances and trust in God’s provision.

Application of Biblical Principles

Living debt-free brings a profound sense of peace and freedom. Without the burden of debt, we can focus on our faith, family, and community. We are free to give generously, save for the future, and pursue our God-given dreams. To start your journey, create a budget, follow the Debt Snowball method, and seek support from your church community through one of the FPU courses offered each year through Landing Place Church. Remember, Philippians 4:19 assures us, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” There is also one of the few times God tells us to test him in the bible and it relates to our finances, Malachi 3:10, “Bring the full tithe into the storage place, that there may be food in my house. Test me on this,” says the Lord Almighty.

Breaking free from debt is a journey that requires faith, discipline, and support. By following biblical principles and the teachings of Financial Peace University, we can experience the true freedom that comes with being debt-free. We invite you to join us at Landing Place Church for FPU and embark on this transformative journey together. Let’s honor God with our finances and live in the freedom He desires for us.
