Mother’s Day 2025 – Practical Tips to Show Care and Appreciation For the Mothers in Our Lives

Heather Dawson   -

Mother’s Day 2025 is just around the corner and this is one holiday you do not want to miss!  In my experience there’s a right way and a wrong way to celebrate this occasion and you do not want to go the wrong way on this day.  So, I’m here to help save you time, stress, and heartache with a few pointers and ideas.  Let’s get to it!

The Mental Load of Mothering

Moms work hard day in and day out, often carrying the mental load for their families.  They think about groceries and laundry and field trip forms and doctor visits and whether uniforms fit.  And after the kids are out of the house, Moms are thinking about whether their kids are happy and thriving and “did I do a good enough job?” and “will my kid call me soon?”

So how can you best appreciate your mom and celebrate Mother’s Day with her?  Use the acronym TSA as your guide.  (Just go with me on this one, mkay?!)

TSA- A good guide for celebrating Mother’s Day

T for TELL.  Tell her you love her and appreciate her.

A mom can never hear enough how much you love her and how much you appreciate her.  Write her a card, leave post-it notes around her spaces with things you love about her, or even better, tell her in person. Acknowledging her sacrifices and thanking her for the ways she cares for you will be music to her ears.  A mom just wants to know that for all of the unseen things she does, for all of the tears and self doubt and late nights, that her family appreciates her.

Proverbs 16:24 says that “kind words are like honey – sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.”  (Don’t have a bible – get a free version here. Let your kind words to your mom be part of your Mother’s Day celebration.

S is for SHOW.  Show her you love her and appreciate her.

Often moms are the ones planning parties and buying gifts and making sure that your day is amazing. Mother’s Day is the perfect time to turn the tables and make sure her day is amazing.  Show your mom how much she means to you through acts of service and kindness.  If you live with your mom, give her a chore-free day by taking over all of her tasks for Mother’s Day.  Take her to her favorite restaurant but don’t ask her to pick – show her you listen and care about her by knowing what she likes.  Has she been asking to spend time with you?  Take her to church (my personal favorite is Landing Place Church!) and then to brunch.  Or take it up a notch and make her brunch after church!  I love this breakfast dish Sunday Brunch Casserole Recipe.  Pro tip – I use ham from the deli instead of bacon.

A is for ACT.  Act like you love her and appreciate her.

Pick up your toys, bring the dirty dishes to the kitchen from your room, and sort your laundry without being asked.  Call her unexpectedly or stop by for a cup of coffee without being asked.  Smile at her when you see her and don’t tell her she’s annoying when she stares at you.  Introduce her to your friends and be proud to say “this is my mom.”  Your mom will see all of this and know she’s special to you.

Thoughtful Gift Ideas

Having a special gift to give her on Mother’s Day is another way to demonstrate how important she is to you. Here are a few of my favorite things:

Geometry Kitchen Tea Towels

Athleta activewear

Anything from Baker and Olive, home of the best balsamic vinegars and olive oils

And if all else fails, a day at the spa always hits the spot!

At the end of the day, Moms just want to know that their families love and appreciate them.  So do your best to tell, show, and act loving and appreciative of them and Mother’s Day 2025 will be the best one yet!
